Ryan Arundel, a native son of Salem, served as an Army Calvary Scout. Arundel was first stationed at Fort Carson, CO in 2003 and then performed two tours of Iraq between 2003 and  2006. He participated in several patrol raids and was part of the first unit that wrestled control of Fallujah from jihadi insurgents. His interview covers a broad range of topics including heavy fighting in Fallujah, protecting Iraqi citizens during the Hajj, the complicated nature of terrorism, the murky nature of the enemy, and the role of the military in higher education.
